In class, we just finished reading and discussing the China-themed novel, A Cup of Light. Following up, we had Gary Erickson visit class this week. Gary is a ceramic professor at Macalaster College in St. Paul. He has spent the last 10 summers working in Jingdezhen, China. He showed photos and video that gave a sense of the scope of ceramics in the city. He also brought in examples of raw china stone, translucent porcelain bowls, shards, old pots, tools, and examples of his own work made in Jingdezhen.
