McKnight Artist Claudia Alvarez presented a half-day, hands-on workshop for MN NICE students. Claudia was in residence at Northern Clay Center from October through December. Her speed in building forms is impressive, and during the workshop, she demonstrated hollow building techniques for large-scale figure sculpture. Through a series of exercises, she challenged students to work quickly and capture gesture of an object.
This workshop was so liberating in making work for me. I'm not a hand builder, or was not in the past. Claudia's leadership in the workshop, encouraging risk taking and the seeking of balance was transformative for me. Thank You Claudia!
