McKnight Resident Derek Au
Derek Au has been in residence at NCC since January as a McKnight Resident Artist. He been meeting with NICE artists and talking about his process, his experience working in Jingdezhen for the past decade, and glazy.org, the open source glaze database that he created. Some of the work he made while in residence is currently on display as part of the Expatriate Ceramics exhibition at Northern Clay Center. It has been amazing to have him working here these past few months!

Eva Kwong Visit
The MN NICErs had a lovely studio visit with Eva Kwong on Monday. Eva is working at NCC for three months as the winter McKnight Resident Artist. We had a wide-ranging conversation about her work and process as well as the larger ceramic field. She greeted us with treats and joined us for lunch after our visit. It is wonderful to have her here!

Kathryn Finnerty Demo
Kathryn Finnerty gave a great demo to the MN NICE group this past Monday, showing her process from construction to surface. She talked about a new series of vessels based on landscapes that she has been working on while here as the winter McKnight Resident Artist. Lots of good practical tips and thoughtful discussion about creating pots with content.

Final Critique
We finished up our 8-month program with a group critique. Amy Santaferraro was our guest for the critique this block. Everyone had great insights and suggestions about one another's work as we look ahead to a final exhibition in NCC's Emily Galusha Gallery in September.

Amy Santoferraro Demo
Amy Santoferraro is the current McKnight Resident Artist, and although she has only been here a few weeks, she already seems like part of the family. This week, she presented a comprehensive demonstration to MN NICE students on mold-making and slip-casting strategies and talked about translating found objects into clay. We also got to see a demo of her famous Plate-O-Matic!
