Leach Apprentices Talk!

The MN NICErs were lucky enough to attend a panel of four of Bernard Leach's apprentices at the charming Almelund Town Hall. Warren MacKenzie, Clary Illian, Roelof Uryles, and Jeff Oestreich brought pots from their time at the pottery and discussed what it was like to study under Leach. Jeff organized a post-lecture tea with homemade scones and jam and real Brittish clotted cream--all served on antique silver and cut glass trays. Amazing!

The WMAA, founded in 2014, provides an opportunity for students and emerging artists to continue their ceramic research and education for a period of up to twelve consecutive months within the grant year, further expanding their professional development.

Warren MacKenzie Demo

MN NICE students had the wonderful opportunity to spend an afternoon with Warren MacKenzie this week. Warren came into Northern Clay to meet with art educators and MN NICE students for a workshop over the MEA weekend. He told stories about his time at the Leach Pottery, talked about John Reeve and the current exhibition up at NCC, and threw some fast and loose pots.
